Quicksmart Update
by Penelope Dobie - Monday, 27 April 2015, 01:49 PM

As we come into Term 2, the QuickSmart students have picked up straight from where they left off.

We are pleased to see the students’ enthusiasm and healthy competitiveness carry on into Term 2. Furthermore, students’ progress continues to grow before our very eyes and we are immensely proud of their successes, no matter the size!  Well done to all our students and the team predict positive outcomes as we look forward.

Sadly, Miss Zsigmond will be leaving Colyton High School Trade School at the end of Week 4 this term to take up a position at another school. From Week 5, Ms Veljanovski will step into the QuickSmart Co-ordinator role and continue as an instructor.

Thankyou Miss Zsigmond for all your hard work and dedication to the Quicksmart program and goodluck, you will be missed.

Indigenous Outdoor Learning Space
by Penelope Dobie - Thursday, 23 April 2015, 12:43 PM

Over the holidays a landscaping team commenced the first stage of the outdoor classroom.

This involved laying a concrete foundation, putting in place a two tiered sandstone amphitheatre and construction of a creek bed that is in the shape of a boomerang.

Hopefully the garden will be completed in time for Naidoc Week (July 5th-12th) when we can start planting the native plants and students will unveil the name of the Garden.

During their time at Colyton High School, the Indigenous students are the custodians of the outdoor learning space and there will be many opportunities to be part of working groups, cultural events and art projects.

Thankyou to Ms Parfoot & Aboriginal Education Team

Historical Reconstructions
by Penelope Dobie - Monday, 20 April 2015, 08:26 AM

Mrs Dodson's year 11 Ancient History class have been learning about historical reconstructions over the last few weeks. Students were given the task to reconstruct Neanderthal Man and Tutankhamun using clay and a 3D mould of their heads. Students were able to understand how reconstruction methods vary depending on the skill and evidence available to each historian/archaeologist.

Well done to Alma, Kiara, Hope, Tanya and Mark-John for their winning reconstructions.
